This original oil painting is based on Old Master's Talisman, a magic
taoist diagram that was believed to rid dwellings of evil spirits
and cure epidemics. One of a set of seven, this charm is to be used
only in the eastern quarters of the house. The others in the set
are specified for other areas of the house including southern, western
and northern quarters. The diagrams were concerned with the art
of fixing the sites of a house in mystic harmony with ch'i, the
cosmic energy. Geomancy (feng-shui) was born of this concept. Toula
has recreated this talisman in harmony with koi fish, symbolic of
ch'i, and a universal symbol of good luck. |
